As a relatively new student to esoteric philosophies and practices, I have found Adam Mclean's work to be extremely well-presented and documented, as far as possible for such material. Discernment of the vast myriad of publications available today requires great discipline and attention in order for seeking to be fruitful, and Adam Mclean's devotion to bring forth little known resources and point out helpful methods for understanding has great value. His work provides a light in the darkness.
As someone just trying to get a grip on philosophical Alchemy and Hermeticism, I cannot thank him enough for his endeavors.

A must-have for all bobbin lacers

This is my personal lacemaking bible. Especially helpful for those who have little or no access to other lacemakers, it is chock-full of diagrams showing virtually every technique imaginable. There are no patterns in this book; it is purely technique. Still, without it I would have lost my mind on several occasions. If you are learning bobbin lace, this book is one of the best buys you could possibly make.

A definite must for bobbin lace makers

Bridget Cook's Practical Skills (the Cook Book among fans) is a definite must for lacemakers. This is not a pattern book, nor a beginner book. It is the ultimate companion for bobbin lace makers, providing answers to almost every technical problem that arises when making bobbin lace. More often than not Cook provides several solutions to a problem, so you can choose the solution that suits your lace best. This book has saved my lace (and my sanity) several times and I heartily recommend it.

Not for first-time lace makers

While this is a very good book, it can be intimidating to the beginning lace maker.

I received this book and several other books when I decided to teach myself bobbin lace. The sheer overwhelming amount of diagrams, information, and instructions was too much. I put this book aside and used the other, simpler, books to get started on the basics and to make my first projects. I now use Practical Skills as a reference manual for looking up specific stitches or alternate methods, but it should not be the first book a lace maker gets. It contains skill sets but not patterns, so be sure to learn the basics before looking for this book.

Read this for my Senior Seminar class before graduating with my B.A. in English and best book Ive had to read for school!

I just graduated with a B.A. degree in English and this book was on my syllabus for my Senior Seminar class, where our semester theme was novellas (longer than short stories, shorter than novels) I had heard of it, but never read it before. Typically, when a book is placed on a syllabus, it becomes a task to read rather than an enjoyment (just a student thing lol). But, not this one! I didn't want to stop reading it! The class discussions on this book/novella were amazing since the author kept thing ambiguous for a reason. So this would be perfect for a book club. While this book could be considered a novel because it is a little longer than your typical novella, it's still a quick read. And by the end, you'll be wishing it was longer!

I bought it for a college class, it was OK. James' sentence structure is rough to get through. I ended up reading plot summaries online because they were easier to understand. The 3 stars is for the average story.

A great edition for "The Turn of the Screw"

This anthology was put together in a way that gives the reader a great perspective of what motivated James to write a ghost story at the end of the 19th Century. The introduction to the story is comprehensive, the story is annotated well (however several annotations were incorrect), and the articles and theory explanations are well done and add depth to the understanding of James's story. If you are looking for a solid understanding of the time period and the motivation behind the story, this anthology is a great choice.
