Tropical Fish Species Guide is an Outstanding Guide for Tropical Fish Hobbyists, Young Adult & Older

Before I launch into why I love Aquarium Guide: Tropical Fish: Species Guide (Aquarium Guides) I want to write about my one complaint. Why did the author choose not to explain about KH?

Water hardness (KH) is as, or more important than, pH. I also would have appreciated if the author had classified each species of fish as hard-water or as soft-water, with an explanation of why it matters. Of course, I may have overlooked his discussion of the topic, but I seriously doubt it.

Still, i greatly loved this 160-plus page book. The author, Kevin Wilson, provides a well-written, well-edited book with the essential data at the beginning of the discussion for each fish species. He then eases into a discussion of each species concerning the proper care, number of fishes per tank, compatibility, and so forth.

Just as welcome as is his easy flowing, no nonsense approach? The excellent photographs. Most pictures are nice enough to be sold as part of a set used as a virtual aquarium app for iPad.

I highly recommend Aquarium Guide: Tropiical Fish: Species Guide for novice and intermediate fish hobbyists, Young Adult and older. I loved the book so much that I bought his companion book, Tropical Fish: Maintenance Guide: (Tropical Fish Guides). Look for a review of that book in the next day or two.

Great guide........but difficult to navigate!

I was looking for a general reference to use while shopping for new fish and this book fulfilled that need. The only problem with this ebook is that the index is not too accurate nor user friendly. All the popular fish species are in there but many of them are not listed in the table of contents, and when you select a heading from the contents list it may or may not bring you to the information you chose. Once you get accustomed to the place in the book that each content listing brings you to it's easier to navigate and find what you're looking for. The reference material it contains is brief but thorough.......fish picture, water preferences, habitat needs, helpful notes. Overall it's a really good reference guide.

This was one of those series I didn't want to end and got melancholy as.the last book was getting close to ending as I knew I would have to bid farewell to some old, very human friends that Kelso had woven. An engaging, enjoyable read that transports the reader back to a different time and place through the (third person) eyes of not as average as he seems 'regular Joe'. Highly recommend to fans of the genre.

Great character transformation, not the greatest love story

Kyle Kingsbury is rich, good-looking, has a celebrity father, and is elected the prince of popularity at school. Influenced by his neglecting father, who teaches him that the only person who will ever love him is himself, he lives his life in an arrogant, cruel manner, getting thrills out of hurting others. When he deceives a girl at school with the sole purpose of humiliating her, and the girl (who happens to be a witch) retaliates, he finds himself under a beastly curse until he can learn to love and is loved in return.

The most interesting part of the story is the great transformation of Kyle. In the beginning he is truly selfish and vile and undergoes a substantial physical change which leads to a deeper, inward change that is believable. Lindy is not as compelling a character as I would have enjoyed. She needs more wit or cleverness to make her truly something unique. He seems to fall in lust with her more than love (thinking of running his hands over her thin dress, etc).

Warning for YA readers: There are references to sex with girlfriend at the beginning of book, alcohol use, mildly offensive language, and general sensuality.

Ms. Flinn creates the perfect romantic tension when Kyle finds his true love and then has to let her go. Like the fragrance of the perfect rose, BEASTLY will linger with the reader, leaving the feeling that life is indeed good long after the pages of the book have been pressed closed.

I think I would call my reaction to this fairy tale retelling "mildly enthusiastic," though I suppose that's an oxymoron.

The story flows smoothly and believably, and does not suffer at all for being set in modern times. Too often when fairy tales are modernized, they lose a bit of their magic, but Ms. Flinn did a very good job.

Two things prevented me being wildly enthusiastic for this book. The first could have been avoided, but the second I thought Ms. Flinn handled very well. First, the transformation help group internet chat logs interspersed throughout the story were an intriguing idea, but I think overall I could have done without them.

Second, for those who, like me, read fairy tales mostly for the romantic themes, it might be hard to be entranced by the male viewpoint. Much like Andrew Lloyd Weber's "Phantom of the Opera" (with whom our beast identifies), however, you find yourself really rooting for the monster, even knowing what a jerk he was before his transformation.

I expect this story to improve with a second reading, and have decided to add it to my bookshelf.

The definitive text on radar

This book is admirably suited to either a one-semester or two-semester course in radar principles and design. More than that, it contains a good deal of information that's useful even to those of us who have designed and worked with radars for many years.
The common faults of written material on radar are either to focus too narrowly on one aspect of the topic, or to omit material on the assumption that it must be classified when in fact it is not. Edde's book avoids both pitfalls. He gives thorough, comprehensive information on all sorts of radars, past and present, designed for various uses, and leaves the conscientious reader prepared to think clearly about where to start when confronted with a request for something new and different.
Suppose you were asked to sketch out an initial design for a radar whose purpose is to track bird migration on the Atlantic flyway. Where would you start? What criteria would you strive to meet? To what extent could you hope to distinguish between types of migrating birds? What help might you hope to provide for keeping track of individual flocks during migration? What design techniques might be useful? How much of what kind of signal processing would you expect to need?
I don't know about you, but left to my own devices I could stumble around for quite a while contemplating such questions. To avoid wasting time this way, I would sit down and rapidly skim Edde's book again, cover to cover, taking notes on what might be useful ideas and starting points.
If you are professionally concerned with radar, you need this book.

Peter Arnold's Dark Skinned Models are geased up or dipped in some type of oil. This gives them a High Gloss effect. Their bodies become free flowing sculptues. I have never seen anything like this. Each photo is a true work of Art. I'm proud to have this book openly displayed. Everyone has fallen in love with the images.

BLACK IS THE NEW GOLD!

The photos in this book are pieces of art. I'd love to have one hanging on a stark white wall. Some of the photos where the black skin appears to be molten gold are really amazing. I really loved those. Of course the men are beautiful, but the photographs show the pride of these men, well deserved of course, and their dignity.

Waited for this book to arrive with bated breath. Finally a book dedicated to black men. Some other books that I have had the opportunity to view have had at most 3 black models out of one-hundred pages or more. Ok, so the book quality, binder and page feel were great, but the pictures seemed to be 2nd tier quality. I was totally disappointed. i will think twice before buying another book by Mr. Arnold.
