This is a very interesting story one I had never ...

This is a very interesting story one I had never heard before I read this book, the book opens the door to another realm an other worldly realm that should be explored and understood not closed and left to the imagination. That's what it was for me a jumping off point to seek real answers not the cultural superficial ones. For this I thank the author who has left it up to the reader to decide for themselves what the entity was.

I love the Graphic Audio "Movie in your Mind"

This review is for the Audio book. Mistborn is it's own seperate review, but a quick 3 word review on Mistborn... Mistborn is Amazing.

Now for the Graphic Audio version.
I truly love listening to my favorite books while driving on long trips, and have many audio books due to that. The Movie in your mind audio books are a step above.. a BIG step above. They really are a "movie in your mind"
With different actors for different characters, they are simply on their own scale when it comes to audio books. My first one was Elantris (another Brandon Sanderson book) and I was amazed, so I got Mistborn and I'm thrilled with it.
Vin's voice actor is superb, the narrator is great... everyone simply does a great job with bringing the book to life with their voice acting.
If you're a fan and want to experience Mistborn in a different way... buy this.
If you've never read the books... These are the books with exceptional voice actors and they bring the story to life, but I would still recommend reading the book... at some point... just because I'm old school like that.

Love this series! Just a note: there are 3 of each book. i.e. labeled (1) 1 of 3; (1) 2 of 3; (1) 3 of 3; etc... last book cd's are labeled (3) 1 of 3 and etc... (3) 3 of 3. I accidentally ordered one from each book/cd not knowing each book has 3 or 9cds=3 Mistborn books.

Great Way to Listen to a Great Book

Great and entertaining way to listen to the best book/ series ever written. The voice actors do a very wonderful job. Loved listening to the book this way. However it is a bit much to pay for just 1/3 of a book.
Don't be confused, this is only the first third of the first book -- look for parts 2 and 3 of book one also. As of right now amazon does not yet sell part 3, however it was just released by Graphic Audio.

One of the most striking features that jumps off the page of David J. Freedman's Fundamentally Different is his talent in driving home meaningful points by having his readers see them, feel then, smell them, and hear them and this is realized with his down-to-earth language and numerous practical illustrations. This is something that many business authors seem to shy away from for fear that they will sound unoriginal or perhaps even unprofessional. The result is that what they are trying to convey becomes cold and in the end fails to influence readers. Put it another way, values have little meaning without stories and examples to bring them to life and engage us on a personal level. We have an easier time understanding the principles forming the basis of these values when we can relate them to our own experiences. To exemplify, as I was reading Fundamentally Different, I experienced two situations where I began evaluating the kind of service I was receiving from two different companies, one of which involved an insurance claim and the other subscribing to a new cable service. The latter should run to the nearest book store and purchase a copy of Friedman's book, as it failed miserably with a culture that seemed to say that I am doing you a favor by taking your order. How many times have we unfortunately encountered this attitude?

Friedman is the former President of RSI, an award-winning employee benefits brokerage and consulting firm. Over a period of twenty-seven years he implemented a winning culture that garnered over a dozen awards for such disciplines as leadership, workplace culture, quality, growth, business success and best work-place. He is a frequent guest speaker and seminar leader on organizational culture, leadership, and values.

According to Friedman, one of the main reasons for the success of RSI was its organizational culture. He maintains that "the culture of an organization is the one factor that most directly correlates to its effectiveness and, ultimately, its success, and "how people perform their everyday tasks is what really determines success."

Friedman goes on to define culture as "the commonly-held set of values and principles that shows up in the everyday behavior of its people." When we ask why one organization is more effective than another, we discover that there is a very high degree of uniformity between values followed by leadership and those demonstrated by the behavior of the people or as Friedman asserts, the values become part of their very DNA.

Using his vast amount of leadership experience and knowledge, Friedman shares and explores with his readers eight keys to institutionalizing any set of organizational values. He elaborates how to implement each of the eight keys, furnishes an in-depth discussion of his thirty Fundamentals or values, behaviors, and practices that were adopted at FSI, and he employs stories to demonstrate how these Fundamentals influenced and impacted people both professionally and personally. All of this is covered within the book's two hundred and seventy-nine pages that are divided into four sections that is preceded by an introduction and a chapter on steps to institutionalizing values where Friedman examines each one dealing with defining, selecting, integrating, making visible, usual ritual, coaching, leading by example and creating accountability. The subsequent four sections analyze core values, focusing on service, adopting the collaborative way and personal effectiveness.

Friedman fills his book with persuasive and sincere passages about what it really means to know how to behave, which, according to him, are not what we write on our walls, post around the office or discuss with our co-workers. It really all boils down to our behavior that shows up on a daily basis-the behaviors that clients, carriers, co-workers, friends, and family actually observe. "We are how we behave." One such pattern of behavior that he emphasizes is thinking from others' perspectives and going beyond our own personal perspective or learning from another point of view. To accomplish this, it is necessary to leave our egos at the door and do what is best for the client, to communicate to be understood and to listen generously.

When we compare Fundamentally Different with other business texts dealing with the same subject matter, what we have here is an enjoyable reading experience rather than a book that we have to plug away to grasp its principles. Moreover, Friedman writes from the viewpoint of someone who really is a passionate observer and his enthusiasm is very contagious. And even if you only apply some of the strategies enunciated in the book, it will be well worth its cost, as it is a timeless vision of powerful business organizational culture and that can even have a profound impact on your daily life.

Zaret writes that this accomplishment gained impetus when competing elites--Royalists and Parliamentarians, Presbyterians and Independents--used printed material to reach the masses, whose leaders in turn invoked the authority of public opinion to lobby those elites.

Zaret further shows how the earlier traditions of communication in England, from ballads and broadsides to inn and alehouse conversation, merged with the new culture of print to upset prevailing norms of secrecy and privilege. He points as well to the paradox for today's critics, who attribute the impoverishment of the public sphere to the very technological and economic forces that brought about the means of democratic discourse in the first place.

Very Thorough Overview!

I am reading this book as a recommended text for a graduate level course on remote sensing. This is honestly one of the more thorough textbooks I've ever read. I'm relatively new to the field of remote sensing, and the author does an excellent job of presenting both theory and applied tools. This is an introductory book, so don't expect extreme detail or in-depth case studies in any one area. But in total, a thorough and interesting discussion on major relevant topics are presented with numerous examples and very helpful explanations. The book frequently discusses the various remote sensing software applications (I'm using ENVI in my course), and it's very nice to see theory and principles tied directly to the analysis I'm actually doing.
Also- the book has a lot of graphics, charts, tables, etc that can be skipped or read in-depth to better understand the topics being discussed. A lot of the figures are in black and white, which is a drawback, but not one that I found warranted any substantial negative feedback. There is a high quality color photo insert section in the middle of the book with more visually appealing images.

In short- Thorough and engaging introduction to the field with a nice balance of theory and practical/applied info. Lots of examples, pictures, and figures that reinforce the topics presented.

Seems cheap, Index is confusing/incomplete

This book is printed on regular printer paper (not the normal glossy textbook paper). For over $100 I would expect higher quality. It makes highlighting and writing notes difficult because the color bleeds through to the other side. The index is extremely frustrating and difficult to use. When looking up topics to study for midterms I just had to scan entire chapters because page numbers were wrong entirely in the index or the topic was left out completely. If you are going to rip off students with high textbook prices, at least make sure you have a quality product.

Great Textbook

This is sure to become a new Bible for me for grad school. Wonderful examples as to how to digitally process images and very clear instructions. Also, to my surprise, I found that a couple of my adviser's papers are cited in it so it's no surprise to me why she suggested it when I was looking for a book on this topic. I will be using this book later for a class, but for now it's going to be a great help for processing my images in the course of my graduate research.

A Must Read For Those Seeking Greater Results On All Levels
