This text is 75% tables up to the year 2050 for calculation of stems and branches making it worth the price even without the theory and explanation of methods of calculation. This is a deep subject that I have been trying to understand for years. This book provides and strong perspective. You have to keep in mind the Chinene language has 3000 characters. Each publication on the subject provides material that clarifies and reinforces the other. It is a life long reference.

No other book in the field of working with sound for healing and spiritual development is as knowledgable, penetrating and comprehensive as this great tome. Contained within these pages is far, far more than an exploration of every aspect of singing bowls, instruments that Perry literally knows inside out through his enormous collection and varied use over many years of practice. Each chapter is an in-depth study of what the bowls have to offer in relation to ancient symbolism, yin/yang shapes, astrology, chakras, mantra, nada yoga, overtones. cymatics (wave fields), planets and musical temperament. Along the way we are given much knowledge of these topics in and of themselves - for example, the use of the voice. The book balances perfectly the historical, theoretical, spiritual and practical sides of these profound instruments and their metals. Very helpful in absorbing Perry's wisdom are the many illustrations, photographs, tables and diagrams. About the Author
Frank Perry, a percussionist with an international audience before ever he discovered singing bowls, leads his field and is a master of conventional improvisation, deep meditation, psychic awareness and esoteric study. He has written on Sir Francis Bacon and lectured on Nicholas Roerich but is best known as the world's leading exponent of the meditative practice of bowls, bells and gongs. A natural psychic, he was involved with Spiritualism, Theosophy, Vedanta and before finding deep roots in the White Eagle Lodge. Dr. Mani Augustine (Manuel) Chilampikunnel is Early Childhood Educational Consultant for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Educator by profession, Dr. Augustine has published several articles in reputed national and international journals. He was recognized by the United States Department of Education for his outstanding contribution and research on parental involvement and students performance. In the 1970s and '80s, he served as administrator of St. Joseph School, Baramulla, Burn Hall School, Srinagar and as principal of St. Peter's School, Jammu, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India.

About the Author
Richard T. Watson is currently the J. Rex Fuqua Distinguished Chair for Internet Strategy in the Department of MIS at the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business.  He is also the Director of the Center for Information Systems Leadership.  Watson received his B Sc and Dip Comp from the University of Western Australia, and he received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.  He is a visiting professor at Agder University College(Kristiansand, Norway), and Fudan University (Shanghai, China).

Watson has published around 100 refereed articles, written or edited more than 10 books (including a data management textbook). He has served as a senior editor for MIS Quarterly and was co-conference chair forr ICIS2004. He is currently the President of the Association for Information Systems.  His current research interests are u-commerce, net-based customer service systems, open source, and information systems leadership. He collaborates with researchers in several countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, and Singapore.

"Very good book"

Well written book that is helpful for a beginner

This is a surprisingly well written and informative book that is helping me re-learn all things about databases and modeling. I've found it surprisingly insightful and entertaining which is hard for educational books. However, this book has kept my attention through most of the sections that are normally relatively boring.

Essential Reading

What this book clearly demonstrates is that effective interpersonal skills are essential to the development and maintenance of any relationship - from family to friendship to work. That many of the personal and professional problems we experience everyday are the result of inadequate communication skills, lack of trust and self-disclosure, and inability to manage conflicts, anger, and stress.
Of special significance to more than half of the US population who report being shy, the author acknowledges the sometimes devastating impact of social fears on relationships and includes a section on working through shyness.
While the book is about skill building, it isn't just an exercise book. On the contrary, it smartly integrates psychological research data, theory, and exercises into a thought-provoking, readable volume. The approach is get-out-there-and-do-it experiential learning. Even though "Reaching Out" is an excellent text for classroom use, it is also very informative, practical, and useful for the self-help reader.

Relationship Basics Reference

If you work with children or young adults this is a "must have" reference book. My first copy was the fourth edition and I continue to purchace new copies as the editions change. This book breaks down into basic teachable elements complex human interactional dimensions. If you do group work in any context you will benifit from its wisdom. I have used this book in public schools at all grade levels, in therapy groups and family sessions, college courses, and to assist teens with improved social relationships. Human services work benifits from the clear and complete presentation of facts.

Wonderful Book!

Any book that espouses positivity gets an A+ in my book!

To give you an idea of what you will be getting in this book, there are chapters on "Can't Buy Me Happiness", "You>Happy", "Thoughts of Happiness", "Words of Happiness", "Actions of Happiness", "Habits of Happiness", etc. Get the picture? Each chapter goes into depth about positive changes you can make to be more happy. You will learn to align your thoughts, words and actions so they create the habits, character and destiny of happiness, according to the book description, and that description is entirely right-on.

I really like the advice and instruction this book offers. If you are tired of your negative, unhappy outlook, this book can really be helpful. Highly recommended.

Delightful "Happiness" Book

I've read several books on happiness, and this one is just delightful! Weaving personal stories, international culture, and do-able suggestions together, Will Bowen constructs an upbeat and engaging experience for the reader.

The thing I like best about "Happy This Year" is that the approach is so practical. The book presents down-to-earth, effective ways to (well, let's face it) change one's thinking habits and belief in oneself. Because, basically, that's what it takes to feel lasting happiness.

I did most of the work Bowen suggests, and raised my happiness "set-point" to a level I never knew existed. Even though I recently encountered some difficult life challenges, I've realized that my happiness level returns to its new high set-point as long as I keep practicing what I learned from this book.

A little more specific than your average happiness book

Oh, I've read the "happy" books before, full of lots of positivity and vague advice on improving that most perky of human qualities. Granted, they all have something to offer, especially if one goes in with a willingness to learn.

But "Happy This Year" was one that stood out to me. Was it full of positivity? Yes. But what impressed me was just how specific Bowen was in dispersing his advice. This was more than what happiness is and is not (though that is included). This was full of specific tips and activities to help develop habits conducive to happiness.

So the cherry on top is what so many of the other happiness books have: exuberant writing and feel-good thoughts. All very nice, especially combined with real information. For those who like science, Bowen has included a nice assortment of studies and facts on happiness.

Yes, there are plenty of happiness books out there, but I found this one had a little something extra.
